Are love and hate the same thing?

Posted on 29/01/202320/01/2026 by Lakshmi

“They have a love and hate relationship”, I said.
“We all know that love and hate are the same thing”, I continued.

My friend didn’t look convinced.
She did say something.

While she was still talking, I was thinking, ‘Is it really?’
‘Are love and hate the same thing?’

“This is really how it goes”, I said, when she had stopped talking.
“We have this conversation and now my next story will be about this, love and hate”.

I typed in google ‘love and hate’ and found this song from Michael Kiwanuka called ‘Love and Hate’.
How convenient and appropriate, I thought.

I didn’t listen to it.
It was just good for me to know, I guess.

I found a Facebook Page called ‘Love and Hate’.
It was about lingerie.

Also I found a website, about love and hate.
It looked interesting, but I didn’t read any further when I saw it was a research.

I don’t think love and hate can be researched.
Although the fun fact is I am doing that just now.
The irony.

‘Are feelings of love and hate something that science can prove?’
I honestly don’t know.

I found a blog about love and hate, explaining the connection of these deeper emotions as the blog says. What it means when these two are connected.
They go deeper into trauma bonds and it says this is the underlying meaning of why there is a thin line, between Love and Hate.
They even make recommendations on what to do to resolve these intense feelings and emotions.

I found it interesting to know and as plausible as it sounds to me that love and hate can be a connection of a trauma bond.
It didn’t give me a clear answer if love and hate were the same thing or not.

I wasn’t wondering if that is something I should discover and find out, perhaps even just for myself.

What I do think is that opposites attract and that whenever we think that something is we hate, we sometimes are not able to, to admit and express that we actually love it.
And then we say and act upon it like we hate it.

The reason why can be many and unknown.
However, there is no need to go after that.

The discovery is just this.

It is just easier to go into the negative of what we love, instead of admitting the positive.
We are just afraid, we might get hurt.

What I know by now is that love should not hurt.

However, sometimes we hurt to express we love.
I believe this is love.

At least the real meaning of why love and hate are the same.

I think that is the answer.
