Does language matter when it comes to dating?
I was thinking about the ‘normal’ language.
I mean, speaking, Dutch, English, Arabic, French.
To me it’s about understanding.
I say something, you understand what I am saying.
My mind went back to this long term relationship I had.
A guy from a Western European Country.
We both didn’t speak our mother tongue, but English we did speak.
We understood each other when speaking English.
Some things he did out of tradition, from his background, some out of habit.
I remember him having contact with a girl from his own country.
It never made me jealous, as I understood he was having this contact to keep connected with his home country.
A language I didn’t speak.
Although I learned some of the words his country spoke.
The depth of the tradition I could never understand.
I simple wasn’t raised or born there.
It wasn’t my understanding.
Did he love me less for this?
For sure not.
I believe when it comes to love, language doesn’t go there.
But to understand a person it would be beneficial to know these habits and traditions.
However, it takes a lot of energy, perhaps even more.
As we are having a relationship with a person and not with love.
Love could make is easy, though.
To be dating someone from another country, takes courage.
To open yourself up to a vulnerabilty you wouldn’t ever completely grasp.
Although beautifull in it’s essence.
It is not a recipe for a lasting, perhaps even succesfull relationship or marriage.
