The meaning of values, what is that?
A sentence I wrote down, although I was hesitating if I should write it like this.
I mean, another way to write it down is what is the meaning of values?
That is what I thought at first to write down.
It seemed logical to me.
This question came after I had written my short story ‘Is love a value?’
An explanation that meant something to me. At the same time I had thought about what values mean to me.
A logical question to ask.
In that short story I am naming a few values such as honesty, happiness and health.
Not specific in that order.
It came to me, when something happened to me.
I had said therefore my values have changed. From the inside.
I also mention that it doesn’t necessarily mean something bad.
I mean, when we get a compliment this is also changing our values.
For the better.
However the process of values is exactly the same.
So, it makes logic sense to ask this question.
‘The meaning of values, what is that?’
I am keeping the question this way, because I just like it somehow.
It makes it real.
I believe it is the ground for this question.
Somewhere it is making me smile.
It is a ridiculous question at the same time, since it is a serious topic.
At least one that is serious to me.
I mean values in general are at least something that belong in that category.
And I believe the way to ask this question this way is making it less formal and stiff.
Like I met you already and you are my homeboy or so.
This is actually making me laugh. Haha.
Because it is exactly how I feel.
Perhaps that is just what we need.
Why does it always have to be so serious?
A joke here and there makes the world a little bit lighter.
It would be welcome.
I believe.
The sad thing is that we haven’t met and I don’t think I know you at all.
So perhaps it is something different than I thought.
Like this question.
So, let me first finish answering it then.
‘The meaning of values, what is that?’
I believe values are substantial assets.
Parts of our being, that makes us live.
I was seeing it as levels.
Perhaps even a cup that can be filled.
To top up, is a different way to explain.
When you are thirsty, you drink some water.
In this sense it isn’t really a feeling.
It is about the example and that you get what I mean.
Another way I was seeing it, was with the example of vitamins.
We need to make sure we have enough vitamins to keep going.
Vitamins can be food, but also sun, relaxation, our brain or anything else that makes our world go round.
Of course also vitamins.
In the short story where I am asking if love is a value : I am talking about inner values.
As examples I am giving, honesty, happiness and even health.
When it comes to values, I mean it in this kind of way.
Or something I had my focus on.
‘Trust’ is another one I am adding to this. Which would fall in that same category.
‘Safety’ and ‘speech’ are other examples. Which can be connected to that.
But it can also be less ‘obvious’, like relationships, motherhood or house.
These aren’t specific values that we know, perhaps just what are important to us.
Which by that a value is created by ourselves.
To say, there isn’t a specific rule.
It isn’t that serious.
And that is perhaps for the better.
To make sure, those values show themselves.
Where this question popped up, if love is a value also?
Values are cornerstones of our own existence is how I see it.
And that would be the answer of what values are, in the way I mean it.
There can be parts of different levels that mean something to us.
We could be aware of it, or not.
It doesn’t really matter so much.
To me I was seeing it in this way where we could be aware of some value and then see if we need to fill it to make sure everything keeps on working.
Something I was doing.
For the simple fact, because I was feeling it.
Noticing is a different word for it.
Of course a lack is also a way to find it.
In the sense of that we are missing something.
Which we know deep down, but it could just be that we are missing our keys.
It isn’t that difficult is what I am saying.
And that can be another value.
Perhaps one to be removed or one that we need to change.
Values are not something vast. Not to say they are fluid.
They are stable, there is just much more we can do with them.
Where in total, combined it makes it our identity.
Who we are from the inside.
Something authentic and specific.
Where for everyone it is different. However coming from the same.
What I am saying is that values are the glue of what we are holding.
Who we are as a person.
Where I believe I answered this question.
‘The meaning of values, what is that?’
It isn’t necessarily an explanation of the meaning of values.
I think that is something different, although it has the same words.
Where this is a little opening for me to explore further.
