Because that is the way love goes.
A sentence that I came up with and thought it would be nice as a title.
‘Because that is the way love goes’.
Not a particular feeling or thought I had behind it, just thought it would be nice.
And sometimes it does go like this.
Nothing really that is there, just the way it is.
Like that.
It was a story I once heard.
I was just having my breakfast.
I think at least that is what I was having.
Could have been lunch also.
It is where I saw a written love sign.
‘The school of love’, it said.
However that is not how the story goes.
At least the one I heard.
About a princess waiting behind the fence of her castle.
And the only way for the prince to reach her heart.
The story starts, when the prince arrives at the gate.
There was a guard standing in front of it.
He had to give his armor to him.
But that is not what the guard had asked.
Actually, the guard was just standing there with his hand open.
Almost like he was collecting a coin.
Not saying a word.
It made sense though, that the guard wanted to have something in return for the prince to go through.
I mean even if he is a prince, it doesn’t mean he can just go without doing anything.
The prince had no money on him and he decided to give his armor instead.
He thought it was a good price for the guard to let him pass.
Just something he came up with there and then.
I believe he only had his helmet and sword left.
And of course some normal clothes he was wearing underneath that armor he gave away.
He wasn’t naked, in case you wondered.
The gate opened and the prince walked further.
He looked at the guard, when passing by.
Who was just staring in front of him.
Untouched by the actions of the prince.
With his hand still open, like he was collecting coins.
The prince stood there with the two items.
One on his head and the other one in his hand.
As so his journey continued.
He walked further, without knowing what to do, but just to keep on going.
Not knowing what to find or who’d meet.
Of course he was hoping to see the princess one day.
He saw a tree in the distance.
Really all he could see.
He decided to walk there.
Once he was there, he was standing underneath the tree.
He looked again in the distance but nothing he could see.
Only him being there.
He decided to take a little break and sat down close to the roots.
Where the branches of the tree would give him some relief from the sun.
Slowly his eyes started to fall down.
He realized how tired he was.
And so he thought that a little nap wouldn’t do any harm.
He fell asleep there and then.
The helmet on his head and the sword still in his hand.
A few hours passed, the prince still passed out against the tree.
The sun began to set, but nothing the prince would see from that.
Since he was sleeping still.
The stars started to come out and the warm breeze of that summer day was making way for the night’s mist.
It was all a romantic setting, I have to say.
However the prince was just there all by himself, still fast asleep.
It was the sound of some laughter that was all of a sudden there.
The prince stood up, very fast.
However he had forgotten that he didn’t have his armor anymore.
The weight he had left behind at that gate.
He almost immediately fell down.
Just on his knee, in case you were scared.
It didn’t hurt the prince so much.
He was from the inside very strong, you know.
He still had his helmet on his head and used the sword in his hand to get him back on his feet.
There he was, standing up.
All in the dark.
However he didn’t know that of course.
Since he fell asleep during the day.
It took him a moment to realize, before he knew that it was dark at night.
He still heard that sound of laughter.
And wanted to see where it was coming from.
He opened up his helmet, to see a little bit more.
He could see a white light that was almost blinding him immediately.
It was so beautiful for him to realize that he was watching a witch.
However she wasn’t wearing a hat or had a crooked nose.
Not all witches are ugly or are looking bad.
I guess that is just true.
She had long white hair and was looking at him with a soft smile.
Even laughing out loud, but just a little bit.
It was the sound that woke him up.
The prince took his sword, letting the witch know he was not afraid of her.
All she did was smile at him a little bit more.
Then the prince knew she was gentle and kind.
Nothing to be afraid of.
Perhaps the witch could tell him the way to the heart of the princess, he thought.
He put down his sword and put the helmet properly on his head, but just with a little opening so he could see the witch.
It was a sign that he respected the witch and understood she was one of the good kind.
Because those are out there.
In case you didn’t know that.
‘Can you tell me where I can find the princess?’ He asked her.
‘Or show me the way to her heart?’
She just smiled back at him.
Again.
She walked towards him and took his hand.
The one he was holding the sword.
He could feel her gentle touch and just knew everything was going to be ok.
The witch took his sword and so his hands were now free.
With both of them he took his helmet and gave it to her as well.
Because she was the kind of witch that would be ok to accept his burden.
Something only he could feel.
Immediately after that the sun started to come up and the white light of the witch started to dim.
The prince had just woken up in time.
She walked away from him, with her face still towards him.
A way of trust she was expressing.
Without saying any words.
For his journey to continue.
And while her appearance started to fade softly.
The prince could see a castle somewhere far away from him.
He didn’t understand why it was there all of a sudden.
He looked around again, trying to find the gentle witch.
However she had disappeared in the sunlight.
And so he was standing there in his normal clothings, both his hands free and he could finally see properly, without the helmet on his head.
I am going a bit fast forward where he was standing in front of the castle.
He just had to walk, and walk, and walk until he was there.
Nothing much was happening for him to reach that destination.
Better to skip, at least what I was thinking.
I mean, this is my story.
I can do whatever I want.
Write as much as I like.
Or just leave things out.
I just didn’t feel there was something there.
That is why I wrote it down like that.
And so the prince was standing in front of that door of the castle.
He didn’t really know what to do.
He looked around to see if anybody could see him.
Just checking if anyone apart from him was there.
And yes, he was all alone there in front of that door.
He took his hand that was free from the sword and knocked on the door.
3 times actually.
Not really loud, though.
It sounds simple, the way I am describing it.
I can tell you he was very nervous.
While knocking on that door.
Perhaps he would finally see the princess, now.
Is what he thought.
He waited to hear something.
From behind that door.
Silence was all there was.
He stepped a few steps back.
To see if he could see something happening.
But the door was very very high.
He could see that clearly.
The door was just making sure there was nobody checking up on the princess.
The prince didn’t even know if she was even there.
He walked again up to the door, standing at an appropriate distance.
From up he heard someone shouting ‘What you want?!’
The voice was a bit sharp and edgy, with a high tone.
The prince looked up again.
The door was very very high.
But I told you already.
‘I am looking for the way to the heart of the princess’, he said.
Then he waited for an answer.
He waited.
And he waited.
He waited even more.
He waited so long, he couldn’t set apart the days from each other.
All became the same to him.
Untill there came a time.
He could only tell when it was day and night.
You know why this was so important?
To make sure he wasn’t fooled by Monday’s mood, Terrible Tuesday, Wednesday, Throwback Thursday, Friyaay, Smiley Saturday or Sleepy Sunday.
He couldn’t be influenced by anything that could stand in between him and himself.
Mainly.
It was also to see if he was really a prince and not a fool disguised as one.
Because everyone can just say that he was looking for the way to the princess’ heart.
That is no rocket science.
The princess wanted to know if this guy showing up at the very very high door was also not just the neighbor making a joke.
That was the kind of relationship she had with them.
I mean, a princess is also just a human.
Perhaps the moral of this story.
But when the prince was waiting there for the door to open.
Nothing was happening.
Still.
People were passing him by.
Giving him food to eat, a blanket to give him warmth for the night and some water to keep him hydrated.
The people had sympathy for this guy.
He wasn’t the first one that tried his luck.
It was also to see for the princess if he was receptive to the food of the people.
If he had an attitude with just the basic needs.
He needed to have a good heart.
If I remember the story well, she also came down one time.
To give him food and make sure he was doing ok.
To ease your mind, the prince wouldn’t recognize her.
He didn’t even know how she looked.
If was safe for her to check up on him.
I mean the princess was a very caring person and she wasn’t going to let anything happen to him.
He just needed to be taken care of properly and she was the one sending the food, blanket and water.
Of course.
Because only the love of the princess could keep this guy alive.
For him to reach the heart of the princess.
Love goes both ways, you know.
It is interconnected with each other.
I don’t think he was a prince to start with.
Just a guy, looking for love.
It let him have his guard down, giving away his armor.
Trusting his senses to not be afraid of the gentle witch.
Putting away his sword.
To not be blind to what his eyes were showing.
Using his brain, understanding the witch was kind.
That is why the white witch freed him from the sword, because he understood the assignment.
By giving her the helmet he showed he could do the rest by himself and gaining the confidence he needed for the rest of his journey.
And that is the moral of the story.
He needed to show he is a human using all he has.
From the inside so to speak.
Not with expressing it with money or saying words outloud.
Love is not expressed in that way.
Perhaps you needed to know that.
It comes from a place close to the heart, you know.
It was important he was showing himself.
His senses, brains and good attitude.
Proving in a way that he was able to do the innerwork.
Because love is that.
At least a love for yourself.
That is why the princess was having a guard, white witch and even someone with a screaming voice to test him.
The deeper meaning of this is.
For life to open up to us, we need to do the work from the inside.
Take a nap when we feel to, believing what we are seeing.
It is the way to surrender and let go of what is keeping us from moving forward.
For this guy it was leading him to this very very high door.
Where he was still waiting for it open.
But he needed first to show that he was just a normal guy.
That he wasn’t fooling around with anybody.
That his means were serious.
That is why the princess was seeing if he was not fooling himself and was true to his own believes and standard.
The only way to know what is inside the heart, is how a person behaves and acts.
And so she was letting him wait just a little longer, to see if he would give up and leave.
Even when he had already passed all those tests.
This was the final one.
To see if it didn’t matter to him.
That he was now just standing there.
Not really doing anything.
Because when that moment happens, when we understand that we did all the work.
We can actually make a choice.
Of that we want to stay or leave.
That is where the choice is made by our heart, instead by anything else than that.
It is where we find true love.
The princess was waiting for the guy to have that moment happen.
When that occurs I will let you know.
Perhaps just in another story.
I think it would be a good one.
So for now he is just a guy waiting for a door to open.
You know, a princes also has to wait sometimes.
She lives in a normal world, although she is a princess.
She knows where she belongs and waits for her turn or for someone to hold the door.
It happens sometimes, but she never demands for it.
That is not really her style.
Perhaps this guy and princess have already crossed path, who knows.
But the choice needs to come from the heart.
That is where love is found.
We need to trust our intuition, following our senses, to not be fooled with what our eyes are seeing, don’t be afraid of the unknown and take care of the situation.
To be able to come to that point we can only make a choice from the heart.
Because that is the way love goes and the way to heart of the princess.
